Mark D. Wade, O.D.

Dr. Mark Wade completed his undergraduate schooling at Southern Illinois University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology.  He furthered his education by obtaining a second Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Science and then a Doctorate of Optometry Degree from Illinois College of Optometry. He has been practicing optometry since 1990, and has been with Crown Vision Center since day one! Dr. Wade became an optometrist simply because he wanted to help others and he thought that this career path was the best way for him to do so. His favorite part today is helping children see clearly for the first time.

Dr. Robert Fullenwider

Dr. Robert Fullenwider graduated in 2020 from the College of Optometry at The Ohio State University after receiving his Biomedical Sciences degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2016.

The eyes have always been fascinating to Dr. Fullenwider, and his special field of interest is contact lenses.  He enjoys problem-solving and helping people, and optometry is the perfect career to do both.

“I enjoy when patients leave the office happier than when they arrived. It’s like you left a positive mark on their day!” says Dr. Fullenwider.

Dr. Charles Lutz

Dr. Charles Lutz completed his undergraduate schooling at Truman State University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.  He furthered his education by obtaining a Doctorate of Optometry Degree from University of Missouri – St. Louis College of Optometry. He has been practicing optometry since 1992, and has been with Crown Vision Center since 1999. Dr. Lutz decided to become an optometrist because he had a strong desire to help people, and this was the best way he saw fit. Today, his favorite part is meeting a diverse group of people each day and getting to know them over the years.

Dr. Karla Hafford

Dr. Karla Hafford completed her undergraduate schooling at Northern Illinois University, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences. She furthered her education by obtaining a Doctorate of Optometry degree from the University of Missouri – St. Louis. Dr. Karla Hafford has been practicing since 2015 and joined Crown Vision Center in 2020. Dr. Hafford became an optometrist because she was inspired at a young age to go into the medial field after wearing bifocals through most of her schooling. She loves meeting different kinds of people while building relationships with her patients. Outside of work, Dr. Hafford’s favorite hobby is staining glass and spending time with her friends.

Dr. Kara Hoff-Rackovan

Dr. Kara Hoff completed her undergraduate schooling at Missouri State University, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics. She furthered her education by obtaining a Doctorate of Optometry degree from the University of Missouri – St. Louis. Dr. Hoff joined Crown Vision Center in 2019. Dr. Hoff became an optometrist because as a child, she loved going to the eye doctor and getting a new pair of eyeglasses. In high school, she learned about the anatomy and physics of the eye and have been interested in optometry ever since! Dr. Hoff enjoys being able to influence patients’ everyday lives by improving their vision in order to see at their absolute best.

Lauren Dust, O.D., received her Doctor of Optometry from Indiana University in 2022 and earned her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Lindenwood University.

Dr. Dust specializes in ocular disease and pediatrics. She enjoys improving her patient’s lives, whether it is helping them see better, treating a new condition, or relieving pain from dry eyes. Dr. Dust became an optometrist to give patients the ability to see the true beauty of the world, and says it is extremely rewarding when patients try on their first pair of glasses and can finally see.

Dr. John Konopik completed his undergraduate schooling at University of Nebraska – Omaha where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Biotechnology.  He furthered his education by obtaining a Doctorate of Optometry Degree from Southern College of Optometry. He has been practicing optometry since 2004, and has been with Crown Vision Center since 2005. Dr. Konopik became an optometrist because it’s a science-related field that was interesting to him. His favorite part about being an optometrist now is getting to diagnose ocular diseases.

Dr. Alaina Altenbernd

Alaina Altenbernd, O.D. received her Doctor of Optometry from the University of Missouri St. Louis in 2022 and her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the same university in 2018.

Dr. Altenbernd is native to the area and specializes in ocular disease and primary care. She followed in her father’s footsteps and became an optometrist to give people one of the best gifts, the gift of sight. Dr. Altenbernd says her favorite part of being an optometrist is being able to help people’s vision instantly with a new pair of glasses.

Dr. Katlyn Peterson

Dr. Katlyn Peterson received her Doctor of Optometry from the University of Missouri at St. Louis in 2020 and earned her undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology.

In practice since 2020, Dr. Peterson’s special fields of interest include the treatment and management of ocular diseases as well as contact lens fitting.  Her passion for science, combined with a strong desire to directly impact people’s lives, lead her to choose a career in optometry where she has the perfect blend of both interests.

Dr. Peterson says she loves meeting her patients and being able to effectively communicate with them so they can have an active role in the planning of their optometric care and refractive solutions.

Dr. Maggie Pohlmeier

Maggie Pohlmeier, O.D. received her Doctor of Optometry from the University of Missouri – St. Louis in 2020. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Westminster College.

Dr. Pohlmeier specializes in ocular disease as a result of completing an ocular disease and primary care residency at the St. Louis VA Medical Center. She has a passion for patient care and a loyalty to helping others. She enjoys hearing her patients’ stories and changing their world through helping them experience better vision.

When she is not treating patients, Dr. Pohlmeier enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Dr. Kyle Sherwood

Dr. Kyle Sherwood began his path to optometry long before he could even get into college. He was always drawn to optometry since elementary school when he got his first pair of glasses. Since then, his dream has been to give his patients the same positive experience he had growing up visiting his local eye care clinic. Dr. Sherwood is a Biology major from Truman State University, and he has been practicing optometry since 2019. Dr. Sherwood’s favorite thing about being an optometrist is the impact he has on his patients’ lives; And it all comes down to “the ‘aha’ moment when patients see how much clearer things are with glasses!”

Dr. Adam Wira

Adam Wira, O.D. received his Doctor of Optometry from the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 2019 and earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology, with a minor in Chemistry, from Northeastern Illinois University. Dr. Wira, born in Chicago, moved to Poland when he was a young boy where he lived until he finished high school. At that time, he moved back to Chicago to begin his education for his optometry career.

Fluent in English and Polish, Dr. Wira is passionate about helping patients improve their quality of life by giving them clearer vision with glasses or contacts and by also treating their individual eye conditions. As a child, Dr. Wira remembers the positive impact his first pair of glasses had on his vision and how his improved vision changed his life.  Dr. Wira’s experience drives his desire to provide the same experience for his own patients.

In his spare time, Dr. Wira enjoy spending time with his family and raising his two daughters. He also enjoys many outdoor activities, such as camping, swimming, and scuba diving, as well as the challenge of solving puzzle games.
